Installation and usage guide, v 1.2
Introduction
Thank you for choosing the NOFOS smart
wallcharger. We’ve worked hard to develop what we believe is the smartest, simplest and most practical charging
experience possible – And we hope you’ll enjoy using NOFOS on a daily basis.
We think you’ll love how the wallcharger
itself stands out:
- It’s tiny and descreet, only 20x20x10 cm.
- It’s got a cool 8x8 pixel display. A quick glance, and you’ll always know what the charger is up to.
- A touch button (placed under the box) for those special occasions where you might want to override planned
charging, without having to pull your phone from your pocket.
- A fixed Type 2 cable that connects to the car, because that’s just practical and looks much better than an
external cable.
It’s smart, too!
- Based on installation location, the wallcharger knows your cost of electricity, so it’ll automatically charge
when it’s cheap.

Planning the installation
WARNING! This product shall only be installed,
repaired or serviced by an authorised electrician. All applicable local, regional and national regulations for
electrical installations must be respected.
Prior to the installation, it is recommended
that you consider future charging needs, so that you can easily expand accordingly in the future.
The maximum charging current is set during
initial configuration.
Check the following before starting the
installation
- Where should the product be installed?
- Is the connected electrical load of the house sufficient or does it need to be increased? Does a new cable
have to be laid? (An external approval may be required). Should the incoming supply cable be upgraded?
- Do you intend to install additional chargers in the future?
- How is the electrical circuit protected?
- Which installation method is planned to be used?
Pay attention to the following when planning
the installation:
- The correct selection of the grounding/earthing system, conductors and protective measures (basic
protection/ fault protection).
- The correct insulation of touchable and conductive parts.
- Sufficient dimensioning of cables.
- The selection of the overcurrent and overvoltage protection.
- The correct calculation of the short-circuit current as well as a short-circuit proof installation method.
- Residual Current monitor intended for the detection of DC and AC residual currents.
A Residual Current monitor fully compliant
with IEC62752, is integrated in the device. This will switch off the current to the electrical vehicle if a
residual current of 6mA DC and/or 30mA AC occurs.
The integrated RCD has no influence on the
function of external protective devices. An external RCD is recommended and may be required in respect to local
wiring regulations.
For an optimal result, we recommend that you
do the following:
- We always recommend a 3 phase installation if possible, to make it future-proof.
- If possible, use the largest approved cable crosssection.
Installation instructions
WARNING! This product shall only be installed,
repaired or serviced by an authorised electrician. All applicable local, regional and national regulations for
electrical installations must be respected.
WARNING! Turn off the power before you begin
the wiring. Use extreme caution and follow instructions carefully.
Mounting the product to the wall:
- Remove the top lid by carefully pulling back on the rubber edge and pulling up.
- Disconnect the flat cable from the lid, and store the lid safely while performing the box mount.
- Mount the box to the wall using a screw through each of the 4 holes.
- Use a TX15 screwdriver to mount the box with ther 4 supplied screws
- Attention: Be careful that the box is mounted on an even, flat wall surface. If the surface is uneven, the box may crack when screws are tightened.
- Install wires
- Strip the individual wires by 10 mm. If the cable has flexible conductors, it is recommended to use ferrules
on stranded wires. Use correct tools to press them.
- For TN/TT 3-phase (230/400 V), install wires PE, N, L1, L2, L3 into the slots marked on the plate inside the
product.
- For TN 1-phase (230 V), install wires PE, N and L1 into the slots marked on the plate inside the product.
- Tighten the screws properly.
- NOTICE! Before turning on the power, make sure the wires are properly connected and tightened. Test this by pulling on each wire.
- Finish installation
- Reconnect the flat cable to the lid
- Mount the lid to the box by gently pulling back on the rubber edge and sliding the lid back on to the box.
- Mount the plastic screws in the 4 holes. Be careful not to tighten the screws too hard.
- Mount the 4 rubber plugs on the plastic screws.
Setup
NOFOS chargers are set up and managed through the “NOFOS: Smart EV charging” app, which is available here:
Download and install the app. After that, set up an account for yourself, if you did not already recieve details for this during the order.
During the initial set up, the following happens:
You'll set an amperage limit. Ensures your car never draws more power than your electrical installation is able to provide. Please consult your electrician for guidance on your specific installation amperage limit.
You decide on connectivity. Connect the charger to a local WiFi or the 4G cellular network.
The charger is registered to your user account.
In order to perform the set up of the charger, follow these steps:
- Confirm that the product is showing the “Ready to configure” animation.
- Tap the (+) icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
- When the product appears on the list as nofos_XXXX, select the charger.
Once a connection has been established, you
will be asked to set the amperage limit of the device.
The lowest possible setting according to
charging standards is 6A, and the highest is 32A. For 1 and 3-phase installation, the amperage converts to the
following kW:
Amperage 1
phase 3 phase
6A 1.4 kW 4.1kW
32A 7.4kW 22kW
Note: If you are unable to select Amperage, it is due to this value already being set on the device. Please
contact your installer or NOFOS if you need to change the amperage setting.
- Now set the maximum amperage allowed for the product.
- Continue on to setting connectivity options. The charger will search for available WiFi hotspots, and show
you a list of all found. Select the one you wish your device to connect to, and input a password.
- Your charger will now restart and connect to the selected WiFi hotspot.
The device is now fully configured, and you will be able to see your charger in the device overview of the app.
Note: If the WiFi connection fails, the charger will re-try a few times. If the connection keeps failing, the
device will automatically revert to "discover" mode, and you can go through the setup process again to select a
different WiFi hotspot and/or password.
Note: If for any reason your device becomes unresponsive, you can reset it by turning off the power supply to the
device, and holding down the Interaction button while turning on the power. Hold down the interaction button for 5
seconds. Once you let go of the button, you will see the charger revert to "Discover" state.
Basic usage
WARNING! Observe the safety instructions
before using the product. Make sure that the following requirements are met before using the product:
- The authorised electrician have set up the electrical connection properly.
- The product is properly configured
- Check the charging cable and connector for damage and impurities such as foreign objects and water ingress
before charging.
- Connect the Type 2 plug to your electric car. The charging process starts and adapts automatically to the
electric car and the available energy at any time according to the configuration. If the car does not start
charging, check that charging is activated in your car and that the connectors are properly plugged in. If
charging still does not start, check
- what might be the cause by reviewing the installation according to this manual.
Maintenance
If the product is installed in public spaces
and is accessible to everyone, observe local and national requirements in addition to the procedures below.
- Ensure that the charger does not have any signs of mechanical damage.
- Visually inspect the Type 2 plug for wear and tear at regular intervals according to local regulations. If
the pins are discoloured or damaged, please contact your authorised electrician.
Cleaning
The product does not require cleaning to operate
properly. Nevertheless, if the product needs to be cleaned for cosmetic reasons, this is possible.
- Use a damp cloth and an all-purpose household cleaner. Avoid using strong chemicals that contain oil or
alcohol, as this will discolour the plastic.
- Do not use running water or high pressure water jets.
Insulation testing (authorised electrician only)
When carrying out periodic insulation testing of
a charging circuit, it is recommended that you remove the product before measuring between all phases joined
together towards earth. Testing the circuit insulation with the product installed may damage the electronics or
impact the reading negatively.
